Paul leads the SMRU Consulting Engineering team. He is a computer scientist and electronics engineer with an interest in intelligent marine sensor platforms and embedded systems designed for extreme environments. Paul designed the CAB Guardians which have been used in multiple locations over extended periods of time to accurately detect killer whales, Atlantic right whales and porpoise, and to report those detections in near real time to our cloud based notification systems. This system creates a map of the whale locations in the region alerting construction projects to stop work in the area and help avoid whale ship strikes.

Paul King has over 30 years of experience, designing, building, operating, and managing technology systems and teams. This has included work on both hardware and software design, from embedded systems through to enterprise level technology. Paul led a team that created first FedRAMP compliant cloud-based data analytics platform.
